My favorite Veteran

My Dad talked a lot about the war, always guarded not to say too much in front of my younger brother and me. You could see in his eyes, even as a little girl who knew nothing about what he had experienced or for that matter about war, there was pain behind those green eyes. He was a very proud man, proud of his family, his heritage and his country. He served in WWII, in the 82nd Airborne. He was a paratrooper who jumped into combat. They were very brave front line Army soldiers who fought for our country. My father was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star for his service. My Dad rests in Arlington Cemetery where he continues to be honored for his service and bravery.  My Mom told us after his death in 1979, that he struggled daily with what he experienced in the war and the difficulties that most returning did. My Dad did this for all of us here today, for our children, and their children. That is why he is my hero and my favorite veteran. My Mom is beside him in Arlington.
